Set a goal so big
that you can’t achieve it
until you can grow
into the person who can.
Looking at this quote I am reminded of one of Will Smith’s movies, “The Pursuit of Happyness” (that’s not a typo, you'll recall that they spell it with a “y” in the movie title).
This inspirational movie is based on the true story of Chris Gardner a salesman whose life takes a turn for the worse when a sales product he invests in doesn’t pan out, his wife leaves him alone to raise their young son, and they get evicted from their apartment in 1980s San Francisco. The movie follows their trials and tribulations on Gardner’s way to turning his life around and becoming the multi-million dollar investor and philanthropist he is today.

I absolutely LOVE the talk Will Smith's character gives to his son telling him not to let anyone tell him he can't do something, not even him.
As it showed up for me...
This movie was released in 2006, the same year my son was born and ten years before I opened The Hypnosis Center. As a new mother working outside of the home, commuting long distances to and from work, I longed to be more in control of my working hours and to make a more meaningful impact doing work I really believed in. My biggest obstacle was that I had no idea what that work would be or how to go about finding it.
I kept that desire alive by reading, exploring, and researching topics that genuinely interested me. After using self-hypnosis during labor and delivery at the birth of my son, I was keen to learn more about the mind-body connection. I learned and certified in Reiki a few years later and my personal and spiritual development accelerated.
Meanwhile, I divorced, kept working my corporate job, and saving as much money as I could. I also started working with counselors, coaches, and therapists helping me to define and clarify my professional goals and aspirations until I took the leap to leave my 9 to 5 job and run The Hypnosis Center full time giving me the meaningful impact and schedule flexibility to be the kind of mom I wanted to be.
If anyone had told the 2006 version of me that I’d be standing where I am today in 10 years, I would not have been able to even picture it, much less believe it!
What it means for you...
I share this to demonstrate that in order to move into the life experience you desire, even if you can not fully describe it yet, it is important to maintain a relentless focus on that which you desire while removing as much attention as possible from the situations you do not want. It does not magically appear like a genie granting wishes, but with consistent work and positive focus in the same direction, the Universe does conspire to work with you.
It also need not take the 10+ years like it took me.
You have unique gifts and talents that are meant to be expressed in this world. The world needs you to be unapologetically YOU! Your dreams are your dreams for a reason. They are like a homing beacon continuing to call you toward your larger purpose.
I really feel a benefit from our last session and have been focused on my new goals. Your voice is soothing and the powerful words you use to encourage and empower are phenomenal.
Hypnosis is an excellent way to focus on your dreams and goals and to visualize them properly in your mind’s eye. What your mind “sees” in this way, it can achieve.
